Through two years, IDDD held debates in the newsrooms of the country’s main newspapers to talk about the importance of the press being attentive to individual guarantees and the right of defense

Held between 2012 and 2014, and funded by the Betty and Jacob Lafer Institute, the project sought to raise awareness among media professionals about the importance of respecting individual guarantees, such as the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair hearing when covering criminal cases. The IDDD promoted training in the newsrooms of Folha de S. Paulo, Estado de S. Paulo, CBN, UOL and Época Magazine. Also, we have produced a criminal law guide for journalists, in partnership with the Abraji and the IBCCRIM. We also held a seminar on Crime and News, with the participation of names such as Eugênio Bucci, Ricardo Kotscho, Marcelo Beraba and Márcio Thomaz Bastos.
In its last edition, which took place between November 2014 and October 2015, the IDDD invited important names in criminal law. Seven meetings were held, two in Rio de Janeiro (O Globo and Grupo Bandeirantes) and five in São Paulo (O Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S. Paulo, Portal G1, TV Globo and TV Record), in total, more than 210 journalists participated in the event.

The project also created the guide “Criminal Law for Journalists”, in partnership with Ibccrim.
